Jeannie was born at Utopia, into a family of well known artists.

She started to paint by doing batik work under the guidance of Rodney Gooch - head of Caama shop in Alice Springs. Her work was featured in the Robert Holmes A Court Collection in 1990.

Margaret Turner is another famous relation of Jeannie. The respective mothers are sisters. Margaret has a fine reputation for her paintings depicting women in ceremony and their body painting.
